A toast to James Martin Heidelberg, Sr., Robert Creeley and Ernest Miller Hemingway, with the bartender's note giving the name of a Sancerre (Sauvignon Blanc) tasted at the bar of the Hotel Crillon in Paris, "where Lady Brett stood up Jake Barnes," in Hemingway's novel, THE SUN ALSO RISES. Also in the photographic collage is a portrait of Hemingway's good friend, actress Marlene Dietrich.
The book in the work is the 2009 edition of Hemingway's Parisian memoir, A MOVEABLE FEAST.
This photograph was taken overlooking the rue de Fleurus in Paris' Sixth Arrondissement, where Hemingway walked after visits to the nearby Luxembourg Gardens as he journeyed to the home and studio of American expatriate writer Gertrude Stein, at 27, rue de Fleurus. Stein lived for three decades at 27, rue de Fleurus, about 500 yards from where this work was taken.
Stein was a major influence on Hemingway's development as a writer of fiction.

A Toast to James Martin Heidelberg Sr., Robert Creeley and Ernest Hemingway from Paris ("Choose Your Drink")

A toast to each of these men from the Closerie des Lilas in Paris, still among the world's best cafes, bars and restaurants.
A Moveable Feast (From Paris, Spring MMX)

A view from the Ernest Hemingway seat at the Closerie des Lilas in Paris, where magnums of the fine Pommery champagne sit iced on the bar, awaiting customers. The Closerie des Lilas cafe/bar/restaurant at 171 Boulevard Montparnasse in Paris' Sixth Arrondissement is where Hemingway wrote much of his first novel, The Sun Also Rises, in the 1920s.
The copy of the book in this photograph is the new edition of the work first published posthumously in 1964. The new edition was worked on by Hemingway's son Patrick Hemingway, and his grandson Sean Hemingway, and released in 2009. This book has less editing than the first, and is more as Hemingway intended it to be.
